Herbal Actions & Flavors

This class is both in-depth & introductory. We will explore "herbal actions" which are short descriptors that let us know how each plant is to be used as medicine. From Galactagogues to Hepatics - these terms clue us in to the amazingly vast powers of plant medicine. This class will also be experiential, as we will taste various herbs to gain understanding of how an herb's action and its taste are closely linked. This class will be taught by Olivia Fite.

Medicine Making: Salves & Balms

Oils have medicinal qualities in of themselves. They also make wonderful solvents for extracting and preserving plant medicine. Learn how to work with oil as an ingredient and solvent to create your own topical preparations. These skills can be used to create both medicinal salves and chemical-free beauty products. This class will be taught by Katelyn Jarkoweic.

Katelyn is a plant lover, folk herbalist, teacher, gardener, and the heart & soul behind Hey Thanks! Herbal Company, a small-batch apothecary located in Baltimore, MD. Using primarily home grown, wildcrafted and locally sourced herbs, their goal is to provide products that reconnect people to the medicines of their region and prolong the tradition of grassroots herbalism and local healers.

How To Grow Your Own Medicine

Are you interested in growing your own medicine? This class will give you an inside scoop on what to consider when planning to plant. How do we obtain seeds, how do you choose what to plant, what plants like to be together, and what plants will yield a significant harvest for a small space? We will also go over the skills of harvesting, processing & preserving medicinal plants. This class will be lead by Holly Burke.

Holly's Bio: A few years ago I discovered the power of plants quite by accident after experiencing an illness which couldn't be cured with allopathic medicine. Since then, plants have become my greatest teachers and healers. They are an integral part of our humanity; we have evolved to depend on them for survival, both physically and spiritually. I feel called to share the lessons they have taught me and work with others to build relationships with the wild plants around us.
